Deborah Tenney Deborah works exclusively with film. She loves the process beginning with the development of the negative through the magic of seeing an image appear on paper. Her images of people and travels are warm and involving. "In this digital age, I am still working with film, I love the entire process: developing the negatives—the suspense of finally opening the tank and seeing images—sliding the long reel between my fingers to clean the film of excess water before hanging it to dry; printing the negative---agitating the print in the developer and watching an image appear like magic. My training has all been at the Creative Arts Workshop, where for the last ten (10) years, I have been more or less a continuing student, studying with Marianne Bernstein, Joan Fitzsimmons, Phyllis Crowley, and Harold Shapiro—all wonderful teachers who push for perfection." Sherry Fogel Her point of view primarily involves photographing everyday events, people in context, and objects from a “different” or unusual perspective. She strives to notice, and thereby cause others to notice, that which may be overlooked. Sherry enjoys introducing ambiguity or irony into her images, making them open to one’s own interpretation. Ilene Omerso Despite transitioning to digital five years ago, her photographic point of view has not changed. She is drawn to architectural and other symmetrical subjects but tries not to limit herself to those areas. She does try to restrict herself from altering a photograph in a way that could not be accomplished in the darkroom. Dianne Thouin Dianne’s photographs are essentially a visual diary of friends, family, and travel. She works in both a traditional and digital darkroom, carefully choosing the medium that will provide the best presentation of each image. Linda Voloshin Linda’s photographs resemble paintings. She uses motion to achieve this effect and to maintain the anonymity of the subject. She is often drawn to water because of the calming and peaceful atmosphere it creates. Tom Peterson Tom is a documentary photographer whose photographs merge the past with our present. His objective is to leave behind stories of our times and culture for future generations. Kathryn Frederick Kathryn is an award winning portrait photographer based in Killingworth, CT. Her unusual style captures the essence of her subjects and strives to illustrate what is unique and fleeting about a particular moment in time. Susan Bender By profession Susan is a clinical social worker, a psychotherapist in private practice. In her professional work she deals with what is presented, what is obvious and apparent, but also with what is not, what lies beneath. When taking photographs she is often attracted to the visual parallel of what I deal with verbally in her office—what appears on the surface and the interpretation of the as yet untold story beneath. Harold Shapiro Harold has enjoyed teaching photography at the Creative Arts Workshop, where he has been head of the Photo Department since 1984. He is proud of the accomplishments and creativity of his students. He is a professional photographer who enjoys photographing people & many other subjects. |
