The Best Dining Chair Ever Designed?

Hans Wegner is considered by many to be the greatest furniture designer (Danish, and recently deceased). This chair, called The Wishbone Chair, is definitely one of his favorites. EXTREMELY sturdy but absolutely elegant, he licensed the design to cabinetmaker friends at one of Denmark's oldest furnituremaking firms. They have been making the chair for 61 years and are just recently starting to get back chairs where the roping of the seats needs to be replaced. "The new rope is better now, we think it should last closer to 65 or 70 years and of course one should be able to re-rope it again after that.

"About as eternal as one could hope for a chair to be. A bonus: it is by far and away the best chair I have ever seen for adapting to different rooms. You can use it wonderfully at a desk or at the dining table or as a living room chair. Most dining chairs, if you put them in the living room look exactly like that -- a dining chair that's been put in the living room. The Wishbone Chair just looks like what it is - a wonderful comfortable, graceful thing to sit on.
