Will Steger: Happy Furniture

Will Steger has always loved fabric.
Early on he started making bags and clothing out of the wildest fabrics
he could find. He traveled around the world searching for unique
fabric, which motivated him and his ex-wife Tara to compete on the TV
show The Amazing Race 2 in 2002. They came in second.
After returning home, Will began manufacturing his own fabrics, and
used them to create a line of bags, women’s clothing, bedding and even
umbrellas. Recently they branched into furniture, featuring bright and
energetic patterns with hand-appliquéd flowers and birds on top.
The furniture shaping is traditional, but the color and patterns make
them come to life.
“The most important thing for me is to make people happy with my work.
Everything we do is done with joy and fun. We try to make people happy
when they look at our prints. People tell me my work is very
refreshing,” Steger said.
When Fairhaven Furniture co-owner Elizabeth Orsini saw them at a
furniture show, she knew immediately that the line belonged at the
store.
“As the accessory buyer at Fairhaven Furniture, I don’t generally get
involved in furniture purchasing. But when I saw this line, my tummy
did a little jump,” she said. “I see this as an accent piece in
everyone’s bedroom or on a sun porch.
Adds Kerry Triffin, the other co-owner of Fairhaven Furniture, “Will’s
furniture is wild, whimsical and genial. It sure ain’t ‘same old, same
old.’ If you have a spot in your home you want to throw a lot of life
at, these are perfect. They’ll enliven everyone who visits your home.”
Sit and be happy, Steger says.
“There’s so much stuff going on in this world that you might as well
make people happy when they’re sitting on a couch.”
